Palawan Peacock Pheasant
(Polyplectron emphanum)
Local Name: Tandikan
Class: Aves
Status: Endangered
Range: Confined to the Island of Palawan
Only the males bear the iridiscent
blue-green and black plumage, which
they flaunt in elaborate courtship displays
to the females, which has quite a drab plumage.
However, this drabness helps to conceal them while
they are incubating their eggs and while they are
brooding their young.
The Palawan Peacock Pheasant
is endangered because of hunting and habitat loss.
