Harriotta raleighana goode.
Harriotta raleighana goode is one of the most interesting chimeras which live in the North Atlantic Ocean at depths below 3,300 ft
Among the grotesque group, Harriotta is one of the strangest. The snout is greatly elongated and ends in a point. It is so long that it is supported by cartilaginous stiffening, and it spreads out at the end in a leaflike lateral expansion. Harriottas can grow to lengths of 4 ft.
Despite its hideous appearance, Harriottas are basically harmless creatures. Perhaps, because of their lack of aggressiveness, they seem to be moving towards extinction in some parts of the ocean. It may be that the species that have adopted the deep sea as their home will manage to survive the longest.
